Hello! Welcome to the Roselit Bone email list. You're either getting this because you bought something from us on Bandcamp, sent us your contact info directly, or subscribed on Substack.
We are trying to move away from social media and into an ecosystem where we have more direct contact with our beloved fans, outside of the toxic sludge of the worst social media companies like X, Meta, and TikTok. At some point, posting on Instagram began just feeling wrong and doing it this way feels much better. Substack allows us to cultivate a following (an ongoing email list) that we are in control of, while giving fans the option to support us with paid subscriptions.
So let's get to it!
TOUR DATES
We had planned on taking this year off to lick our wounds and record a new album but we couldn't pass up the opportunity to open for BRATMOBILE in Portland, and to play our favorite festival, OffBeat Music Fest, in Reno, so we've booked some dates! NEW LINEUP
We have a new lineup! For the August shows, and the West Coast dates of the September/October tour, we're happy to have the full 6-piece band of me (Charlotte), Faith, John England-Fisher plus new New Orleans members Rose Cangelosi (Margo Cilker, Fantasy Nonfiction) and Pax Marler (Sirocco Brass, Wits End Brass Band), and Kathy Foster (The Thermals, All Girl Summer Fun Band, Roseblood). And Becca Davidson (Spindrift, The Darts) will be joining up for some California dates when she gets back from her forever tour with The Darts.
FUCK SPOTIFY
We are removing our music from Spotify.
We’ve made the decision to remove our music from the platform in protest of Spotify’s ongoing exploitation of independent artists, its embrace of AI-generated content and "ghost" artists, and its CEO Daniel Ek’s investment in Helsing AI—a company developing AI-powered military technology.Â
We’re done contributing to a platform that accelerates the erosion of human creativity and subsidizes the further industrialization of global violence. The move into AI combat technology, and the more efficient flaying of bodies this will entail, is the logical next step in the techno-capitalist project of devaluing the human spirit. We are no longer buying into the myth that we must play along with these companies in order for people to find and appreciate our art. Even if that were the case, our music is not worth the great suffering these companies will continue to inflict if the tide of public opinion doesn't change soon.Â
We appreciate those of you who have discovered us there. You can still stream, download, and support our work through other platforms that at least pretend to value human artistry. They are all definitely flawed but right now we suggest Tidal and Bandcamp. You can use an app to transfer your playlists to Tidal.
Our label, Get Loud Recordings, has quickly supported us in our decision to remove Ofrenda and Crisis Actor, and you can support them and the band by purchasing physical or digital copies of our albums through their website.
For our own releases, Blacken & Curl and Dreamless Sleep, it may take a little while for Spotify to process the takedown notice from our distributor, CDBaby. Please honor our wishes and don't stream these songs there, or the ones left up on compilations. If you genuinely can't afford to buy a download of our music in order to keep listening, please email us and we will send you a digital copy of the records that we own the rights to.
The best ways to support us, and other independent bands, are to come to the shows, buy our records, buy our handmade artwork, and to tell your friends about our music. Spotify isn't the last platform we plan on leaving as we work towards a more thoughtful online presence. We hope you’ll follow us wherever we go.
